The Ritual to Start Your Summer Off Right

Starting the morning off on the right foot sets the tone for the rest of your day; with summer approaching, here are our tips on creating the perfect morning ritual to ensure you live your best life all summer long. 

1. Don’t hit snooze

It is so tempting to hit snooze just for ten extra minutes of sleep; however, research shows that sleeping past your alarm negatively affects your overall sleep quality. Trying to stay in bed for a few extra minutes can throw off your REM cycle, which makes you feel groggier when you eventually wake up and start your day. Ways to avoid this are to aim to wake up at the same time daily, sit up as soon as you hear the alarm go off, open the windows to get natural light in the morning, and even move your alarm far from your bed to make sure you get up to turn it off.

2. Hydrate 💧

We know many of you dream of a nice cup of coffee as soon as you wake up; however, drinking coffee first thing in the morning actually spikes your cortisol levels – and that is not what we want! Instead, opt for a nice glass of water, and if you are feeling fancy, add some lemon. Drinking water on an empty stomach helps reset the lymphatic system, which is vital in helping build a strong immune system.

3. Practice Gratititue 💌

Rather than grabbing your phone and scrolling on social media as soon as you wake up, try grabbing a pen. This summer, we are partnering with The Five Minute Journal to help you start your day happier. Psychological research has shown that cultivating gratitude leads to personal growth, increased emotional intelligence, better productivity, and more meaningful interpersonal relationships. Taking five minutes to list what you are thankful for has never been easier, as the journal has prompts ready and a new quote to start your day.

4. Move your body 🏃

We are firm believers in making little changes and seeing significant results. Moving your body in the morning can look different for everyone; it can mean running, going to the gym for a workout class, or doing simple yoga stretches at home. Multiple studies have found that even light exercise in the morning can help to improve focus, lowers your risk for diabetes, and boosts your energy throughout the day!
